William Tucker Cemetery

The public is invited to the William Tucker Cemetery Dedication, located at 1 Sharon Court in Hampton’s historic Aberdeen Gardens neighborhood. You are encouraged to park at Springhill Suites, located at 1997 Power Plant Parkway, and ride the free shuttle to the cemetery.

William Tucker was the first child of African descent to be born in English North America. This is believed to be his final resting place and generations of William Tucker descendants are also buried here.

This ceremony will include a keynote message from Secretary of Natural Resources Molly Ward, with remarks from other distinguished speakers including Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck; Kathy J. Spangler, Executive Director of the 2019 Commemoration; Hampton Councilman Will Moffett; and Author and Hampton History Museum Senior Curator Michael Cobb, as well as representatives from other organizations throughout Hampton Roads.

Transportation to the cemetery will be provided from Springhill Suites, located at 1997 Power Plant Parkway in Hampton.
