Mary W. Jackson Neighborhood Center will host a Black History Program on Feb. 17, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m., titled “Life in Olde Hampton Through the Decades.” This enriching event aims to explore the rich tapestry of African American history in Hampton, Virginia and its profound impact on the city’s development over the years.

The event will be held at the Mary W. Jackson Neighborhood Center, located at 231 Lincoln St. Named after the renowned NASA engineer and Hampton native, this community center serves as a hub for cultural, educational, and recreational activities.

This program is designed to be an enlightening journey through time, featuring historical presentations that delve deep into the lives and experiences of African Americans in Hampton from different eras. Spectators can expect to hear about the struggles, triumphs, and the indelible contributions made by Black men and women. The program will also feature musical selections that provide a vibrant backdrop to the narratives being shared.

The “Life in Olde Hampton Through the Decades” program is open to the public and free of charge. This event promises to be an engaging and informative experience with topics on Downtown Hampton, The Basie Theatre, Mary S. Peake, the Dixie Hospital, First Baptist Church-Hampton, and more.
