Voice of America is pleased to partner with Norfolk State University to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first African slaves in what is now the United States. Telling America’s story, including all aspects of life, government, and culture, is at the heart of the VOA mission. Exploring its history, good and bad, and understanding the impact of the slave trade on America’s evolution, is an important part of sharing that journey. Thanks to a distinguished panel of experts, we anticipate a lively program that VOA will share with its affiliate stations, including all across the African continent. This promises to be a rich and educational experience not only for Norfolk State students, but also for many more students in Africa and around the world.
