A Student’s Connection to the American Revolution – Hampton Arts Education

Students step into 18th-century Virginia through an interactive conversation with John Rollison, a wealthy African American business owner and Revolutionary War supporter, brought to life by historian James Cameron. Students are encouraged to ask questions and engage directly with history from a local perspective.
Connected to figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Nelson Jr., Rollison’s story helps students see the American Revolution through a broader lens—highlighting voices often left out of traditional narratives.
This program explores colonial life, class, laws related to race and property, and civic responsibility while aligning with Virginia History SOLs.
